Linear playground full of fun & challenges

The new playground at Our Lady's Catholic Primary School is a fast favourite for the students and the school community. Designed to fit perfectly into the linear site, this 25 metre long playground boasts a range of climbing, balancing and overhead activities to promote active play. While high play value was central to the design, we also ticked the boxes on aesthetics with a modern colour scheme and the inclusion of elements of timber and rope.

A place to burn energy

When designing the playground in collaboration with Our Lady’s Catholic School our team focused on selecting play elements that would challenge the students and give them somewhere to burn their energy during their class breaks. The playground includes rope structures, balance discs, a rock climbing wall and monkey bars to help develop upper body strength while encouraging active play.

Rope structures

Many schools are selecting one or more of their play spaces to include ropes structures as it is ‘something different’ and adds variety to the schoolyard. This playground variety is always valuable as primary students can often tire of one thing quickly. Allowing them to have different options to play with keeps them occupied for a longer period.

A collaborative design process

The Our Lady’s Catholic School team played an important role, providing a wish list of products and colour schemes to be included. Using these selections, the design team at adventure+ produced a playground design that suited the requirements for the school exactly. After finalising the playground design, the school was also able to choose the turf undersurfacing for the play area.

Schoolyard appeal is important to maximising enrollments and improving parent satisfaction. That is why in this project the playground aesthetics were not forgotten and a modern colour scheme with elements of timber was selected. Combined with green turf undersurfacing gives a neat and eye-catching result.
